Google Keyword Planner Tool Update with New Features

Google dominates the search results, while Google Ads is the buzziest online advertising platform. Google works consistently to offer new AdWords experiences to users. Hence, they frequently roll out new features and updates for advertisers to skyrocket the efficiency of their Ad campaigns.

Well, Google Ads was formerly known as Google AdWords. This significant change happened in 2018. The fundamental change was that instead of logging in to Adwords adwords.google.com, we would log into Google Ads (ads.google.com). And onwards, there’s a lot to catch up on!

Here’s everything you want to know!

The New Google Keyword Planner

A year after launching its Keyword Planner, Google made the first significant update to the tool a few weeks ago and gave additional features to make it more valuable and powerful.

Since then, Google Keyword Planner has become the backbone for marketers to scale businesses to the next level.

Google Keyword Planner is basically a keyword free research tool that’s available for free. You can use it to explore new keywords, learn their actual search volumes, and learn how much it costs to target them.

In 2024 and beyond, this game-changing tool will be the go-to option for setting up ad campaigns. Now, let us go to the ‘new Google Keyword Planner’ revamp, presently known as the Google keyword tool.

What’s New in Google Keyword Planner?

Find New Keywords

The keyword research tool lets you find the most appropriate keywords relevant to your business.

Analyze Keywords

Google Keyword Planner lets you analyze the keywords. It gives you in-depth insights into how people search for queries in the search results and how these searches change over time.

Bid Estimates

One noteworthy thing is that the Keyword Planner gives you an overview of the suggested bid estimates for every keyword. This makes it super easy to analyze your ad budget.

Plan

Now that you have found the right keywords, simply add them to your plan. Then, you’re all set to share them with others.

Google Search Volume

It still shows us the average monthly search volume from the old planner, which is quite a letdown. They could have done better by making it a better range approximation tool for Keyword Search Volume. Right now, the given ranges are as:

  • 1k – 10k
  • 10k – 100 K
  • 100k – 1M

etc., which aren’t exactly of any significant help. This is true, especially for low-budget or new startup companies. Anyhow, the latest thing is the mobile search volume within the chart.

Previously, the Google keyword tool included two options

  1. Find new keywords
  2. Get metrics and forecasts for your keywords

How to Get Started with the Google Keyword Planner Tool?

Step 1: Create a Google account.

Step 2: Head to the Google Ads dashboard and set up your Google Ads account.

Step 3: To open the Google keyword planner, click “Campaigns & Tools” in the navigation menu.

Step 4: Then, select the keyword planner tool under the “Planning” section

You’ll then see three options:

  • Create a Keyword Plan: You can create your keyword plan by searching for new keywords. This includes discovering new keywords or uploading the existing keywords.
  • Understand your keyword forecasts: This option shows the number of conversions, clicks, or impressions you would get for your keywords based on your ad spend.
  • Organize keywords into ad groups: This option can be used to find and organize keywords into groups.

After you select the “Discover New Keywords” option, you can choose from the two tabs:

Start with Keywords and Start with the Website.

Under Start with Keywords, you can explore keywords, such as “electronic goods.” You can even enter phrases; a maximum of 10 keywords/phrases are allowed. After you’ve entered the search terms, click “Get Results.” And there you are!

Under the start with website option, you can enter your website’s URL to get relevant keyword ideas. After entering the site URL, click “Get Results.”

What’s More in the Discover New Keyword Option?

  1. Filter and Refine:

Easily filter your results to understand better the keyword ideas that work well.

You can filter the results by:

  • Keyword text
  • Competition
  • Average monthly searches
  • Organic impression share
  • Ad impression share
  • Top of-page bid (low range)
  • Top of-page bid (high range)

Make sure to exclude keywords that are already present in your account.

2. Narrow by Location

In the given box, you can search keywords by targeting geographical locations, including countries, regions, and cities. Click on “Nearby” to get relevant keyword ideas for the locations you entered.

3. Customize by Date Range

If you’re looking to run a seasonal campaign, the date range features help. You can adjust the date range to view the search volume over time.

Get Search Volume and Forecast

Your plan forecast shows the number of conversions, clicks, or impressions you will get for your keywords based on ad spend. Don’t just blindly spend all your budget on Google Ads.

Fortunately, you can forecast considerable data within the new keyword planner update to get started. It is much better than starting with your keyword list of ideas.

In the old version, we first went to the main menu and chose the forecast option. Now, you can plan your budget and get forecasts by clicking “Enter or upload a list of Keywords to get forecasts.”

Adding Up: AI is Everywhere

AI is the new frontier and is used in almost every sector. How can we skip keyword research? Recently, work has been done on performing keyword research that incorporates AI to ensure we’re bidding on the right keyword. AI and Google’s machine learning algorithm are working together, bringing the best results possible.

Final Words

Hope you’re now clear about the fresh updates and features in Google Keyword Planner. It contributes a lot to increasing the overall SEO value. It’s FREE for beginners and offers an entry point for finding the right keywords for your business.
